ARTIST OF THE MONTH OF APRIL

Marie-Eve

How did you discover collage?

I always had this creative side and love for aesthetics dormant inside me. Over the years I surprised myself by keeping magazines and old books with the goal of doing illustration one day. It’s only in October 2019 that I started to play with this medium and I feel I’ve only started my exploration and I’m not about to finish it, which I really like!

What did you like about the collage medium?

I love that collage continually gives me surprises. I sometimes have an idea that I want to express, and when searching for images the idea becomes more and more concrete. I love that it is a beautiful mix of hazard and synchronicity. I give myself space mix many mediums and recycle.

How would you describe your style?

Minimalist collages full of spiritually charged and healing symbolism.

In one word, what makes you unique?

Symbolism

Where do you find you collage material? What are your favorite magazines?

Everywhere! At the moment, I love using Nature Morte, and really enjoy scanning everything I find linked with nature and to play with those and other copyright-free images, as well textured papers, etc. For books, I always find them in second-hand stores.

Any advice for a newcomer collagist?

The process is precious; this is not about a finality… Treat art as therapy and a expression of your inner-self. A beautiful medium to project yourself with images. Focus on your intention and intuition, and everything will flow!
