Look Around – World Collage Day 2022

For World Collage day ¹ Québec Collage asked professional and beginner collagists from all over the world to create a collage concentrated inside the space of a circle by exploring the notions of fullness and emptiness. Look Around open call  was inspired by the meditative exercise of the Japanese Enso.

In a free theme, artists were called to visit their individuality, beauty and imagination by promoting gesture and intuition. After creating inside their space, participants are invited to open themselves to others by looking without judgment at the works created, to contemplate and wonder at the diversity during a virtual exhibition and a physical exhibition of local works at the Coups de pinceaux Coups de Ciseaux gallery.

Nearly 122 collages were received from more than 25 countries!

In addition, 40 local works took place in a gallery in Montreal.

A warm welcome to everybody who have answered to this open call and thank you for making contemporary collage live as strong!

¹ About collage world day :

In 2018, Kolaj Magazine initiated World Collage Day, an international celebration of collage on the Second Saturday of May. We invited artists and art venues to hold events on that day to celebrate collage. We saw fifty events in twenty-five countries and thousands of posts on social media using the hashtag, #worldcollageday. The succeeding years, the event continues to grow.
